SUMMARY:Spring Semester: Imitate Monet’s Shifting Light and Colors
DESCRIPTION:Claude Monet studied the effects of light by painting the same subject in varying lighting conditions. His most well-known series were haystacks, water lilies, Rouen Cathedral, Waterloo Bridge. This approach allowed him to capture how changes in light would affect the colors, shadows, and overall mood of his works of art. In this colored pencil course, we will study how to depict your chosen subject, structure or landscape at different times of the day – dawn/sunrise, midday, sunset/dusk (i.e. alpenglow effect), and nighttime. The primary focus will be on how colors shift from warm to cool tones, or saturate/desaturate, depending on the light source (sun, moon, street lamp) and atmospheric conditions (mist effect of fog, reflections from rain, etc.).\nMaterials: 9in x 12in pad of Canson XL Mixed Media white paper, a set of colored pencils (wax-based or watercolor pencils), hand-held sharpener, a pocket folder in which to store weekly reference sheets.\nClass will not meet on April 22.\n
